Physical Description:
Most people in the world would call Bertha fat, but she does not let an excess of pounds weigh heavy on her head. She always takes care of her appearance, if not her diet. She enjoys experimenting with her hair: different colors, different styles, different lengths. A lot of time is dedicated to make-up and hair arrangement each morning, as well as to picking out clothes. Her eyes are a clear hazel and possess a devious glint. When she does grin, her smile is radiant and lights up her face.

Personality:
Bertha lives by a moral code that tends to differ from that of the people around her, but she clings to it valiantly and never varies. She has no problem telling stories or sharing secrets because, frankly, if people are stupid enough to tell stories that they don't want spread around or let Bertha in on a secret, they deserve to have that information spread all over the school. Plus, she abhors secrets, and believes that anything that anyone does is everyone's business since they breathe the same air and live in the same world. Unfortunately this mentality often puts her on the bad side of most of her classmates. They tend to stop talking when she comes around and avoid her when they can. Bertha is terribly desperate to be liked, and this attitude from her peers only makes her more eager to find good gossip, because if the story she is telling does not involve her audience, all eyes are on her and she loves it. Other than that, she has a pretty orthodox view of what is right and wrong. When people break the rules, she is the first to point a finger. This is not because she likes to see other people in trouble, but because she hates to see other people suffer because of others' disregard for the rules. There is no such thing as a victimless crime to Bertha. She has learned to keep her mouth shut most of the time, preferring to hear and see events as they occur rather than take part in them. Her sharp memory helps her keep her marks on the positive side, but she often lacks the ability to apply knowledge, rather than just regurgitate it.

History:
George Jorkins is a friendly, out-going man, and made friends easily in both the wizarding and muggle worlds. As an author who specialized in muggle culture, he made his home in Earl's Court of London. Soon after moving into his flat, he married his neighbor Jane Monroe. Jane gave birth to their daughter Bertha on December 12, an event that would effectively ruin their happy lives together. From first meeting to June 15, 1972, George never mentioned the fact that he was a wizard. His research on muggle culture passed as research on culture in general, and his wife never questioned his work as George could have an awful temper when annoyed. However when Bertha's invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrived in the mail, and when George did not share Jane's laugh at what to her was obviously 'junk mail', the jig was up. Jane quickly and violently packed her bags and stormed out of the apartment, not hesitating a moment to even kiss her daughter goodbye. Bertha was tainted, dirty, a freak and a danger that Jane had unknowingly released upon the innocent, God-fearing people of the world. George was just as evil as Bertha, plus he had lied to her. George watched Jane go with a stone face, then gathered his daughter into his arms and held her as she cried, reassuring her that she was beautiful and good. The duo packed up the flat the next day and moved. Two months later, Bertha found herself at Hogwarts, a place where no one would hate her because of who she was.
